Three Quick Meditations You Can Do Anytime

It's easy to get so into the habit of focusing on our to-do lists, that we forget the importance of pausing to relax and get centered from time to time. We are so often conditioned to think of ourselves last. But by doing a few simple things, you can truly improve the quality of your overall life and your daily experience.

The purpose of these 3 quick meditations I'm going to share with you is to give you a way to reorient your consciousness and energy into a peaceful, clear-minded place at any point during the day.

Each meditation only takes a few minutes, but they will help you to release stress, relax, and refresh yourself. Try them out and take note of how it improves your experience.

1) Calming Meditation

Find a quiet place where you can be alone and undisturbed for a few minutes. Close your eyes. Take 3 long, slow, deep breaths. Then continue to breathe naturally. With each exhale, relax your muscles more and more. Imagine that a peaceful light is bathing all your muscles with a relaxing balm of light energy. (You can give this light a color, if you wish.) Bring your consciousness back into your body, and focus on your heart center. When you feel centered and calm, open your eyes, stretch, and proceed with the rest of your day.

2) Nature Meditation

This simple meditation is designed to bring your body's energy back into a harmonious resonance with the Earth. This is a great meditation to do if you have been spending time at a computer or in a stressful, rushed situation. Find a quiet place outside where you can sit and enjoy the natural space around you. Have an intention to tune your body's energy into harmonious resonance with elements of the natural world. Focus on one or more of the following:

  • the warmth of the sun's rays on your body
  • the sound of birds
  • the sound of water
  • the clouds in the sky
  • any other natural elements around you

Allow yourself to open up to these natural elements, and let your energy come into resonance with them. Notice how this affects your body and your vibration, as you come into greater resonance with the Earth.

If the weather does not permit you to go outside, you can sit by a window and connect with these elements in that way.

3) Meditation for a Peaceful Sleep

This meditation is best done right before bed. Sit quietly in a comfortable position with low lighting in the room. If you like, you can play some peaceful, relaxing music. Take a few deep, relaxing breaths, and imagine that you are inhaling a calming, lavender light. Each time you exhale, release the events of the day. As you breathe, say the following words one or more times: "I release the events of today. My energy is clear. I go to sleep happy, free, and content."

Each of these simple meditations can be done in as little as 3 to 5 minutes. Of course, you can always indulge for a longer period, if you wish. Be mindful of how you feel throughout the day, and if you are tense or stressed, take a few minutes with one of these methods to bring yourself back to a calm center.
